About S&F

Welcome!

This blog is mostly made up of two things: short stories I have written (Sky), and my own thoughts, philosophies, ideas and questions about real life (Field).

It started halfway through 2010, and from then until Autumn 2012 I maintained my target to post something new 3 times each month. However, since then I have only posted when I actually feel like it or have something worth saying.

What Influences your Thinking?

I am obviously sharing my own views, but I consider myself an amateur in everything I write about. My views are only what I've formed so far, and I won't be surprised or opposed to them changing if reason and experience lead that way.

Some of the main influences on the topics I post about include the literature of C. S. Lewis, and the Recycle Your Faith website. Lewis believed in putting your thoughts into plain english, and the RYF website aims to openly question philosophies that we take for granted. Both encourage you to use sensible reasoning to construct and develop your beliefs.

Pros and Cons of Blogging

Writing my thoughts down helps me to clarify my own jumbled imagination. Have you ever known a person struggle to communicate with someone because they didn't know how to put their thoughts into words, and some wise friend suggests they write a letter? A bit cheesy perhaps, but I've seen it work, and really help in that situation.

On the subject of the blogging culture, there is a tendency to promote yourself and your content as much as possible, but as a christian I'm not keen to blow my own trumpet too loudly. I am making some of my thoughts available, but I'm not aiming for anything like a 'blog of the year' award! It's simply part of my nature to enjoy thinking, and to encourage others to question things with me.

Setting myself a target to post 3 times each month was a helpful motivation when I started and I am pleased that I stayed committed to that for as long as I did. But through 2012 that same target felt more like a chore, so I decided to drop the pressure on myself and post when I felt like it.

Comments and Feedback

I am grateful for all comments, bad as well as good. I value others opinions, and my skill at writing needs improvement! Please (politely) comment on anything you feel like.

If you do want to add any comments, I'd encourage you to read my distinction between debating and discussing. On this site, I'm aiming for the latter...

Thank you for reading!
